Candle Safety/Care Instructions

Before the Burn: Candle Safety Info

¨ Always keep burning candles within sight.

¨ Never burn a candle on or near anything flammable and keep away from drafty areas.

¨ Keep out or reach of children and pets.

¨ Never touch or move a burning candle or candle container with melted wax.

¨ Never use candles as a night light.

During/After the burn: Extending the life of your candle

¨     Make sure to place candle on a level surface

¨     Trim wicks to ¼ inch before each burn.

¨     Allow the candle to burn and the flame to melt the entire surface of the wax to avoid “tunneling.”

¨     Make sure to remove any wick or other debris from melted wax.

Candle Care

¨     The first burn is very important. Make sure to burn the candle until the wax melts across the entire surface of vessel (this prevents tunneling and creates an even burn for the duration of the candle’s “life”). This may take between 2-4 hours.

¨     Trim the wick to 1/4 of an inch before each burn to promote an even burn, steady flame and limit sooting/mushrooming of wick.

¨     To preserve the fragrance, do not burn your candle more than 4 hours at a time.

¨     Trim the candle wick after each burn. This is very important to prevent the candles from smoking on the next burn or from burning the sides of the glass. We recommend trimming them between 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch each time.  Invest in a good pair of wick trimmers that will cut and remove the excess wick cleanly.

¨     If soot ever forms on the inside of the vessel, extinguish candle, wait for it to cool, then wipe with a clean damp cloth. Trim wick and re-light.

¨     Please keep the wax pool free of wick trimmings, matches and debris at all times.

¨     Extinguish candle with a snuffer, or dip wick into melted wax and then straighten wick to prevent smoking and also prevent hot wax from splattering. Do not blow out.

¨     Extinguish a candle if it smokes, flickers, or the flame becomes too high. These signs indicate the candle is not burning properly and the flame isn't controlled. Let the candle cool, trim the wick, then check for drafts before re-lighting.

¨     To maximize scent throw, burn in desired space for 30 mins with the door closed. Open windows and doors will disperse scent.

¨     Always store your candles in a cool, dark and dry place.  Avoid placing your candles where they will be directly exposed to sunlight or harsh indoor lighting.

Jar Cleaning and Additional Use

¨     There should be minimal wax residue left over and since soy wax is water soluble hot soapy water from the faucet should suffice for removing it.  In cases where excess wax is at the bottom of your jar you may need to boil some water to properly remove the wax – now you can place excess wax in a wax warmer for additional enjoyment!

¨     Remove the wick sustainer from the bottom of the jar.  This should come off easily with your fingers or a butter knife if necessary.

¨     Wash again with soap and water reuse for almost anything – small cups, coffee scrubs, or organizing containers for pens and pencils!
